Sports Comments
Thank you to everyone who left messages about what you would like on campus regarding sport and recreation.
Anonymous: I would love to hold more dancing classes, spaces are a huge issue right now but I just emailed a Zumba instructor last week so fingers crossed.
Alexandre: Your comment was short and sweet! next semester when Tertiary Sport WA finishes I am planning a one day sport afternoon with all staff and students. We also have the Student Cup that runs Wednesdays each semester.
Lauren: Your comment was more about watching sport then playing but there is a football in the Student Life Office for students to use at anytime. It is free and you just need a student card! Love the comment about the double shot skinny cappuccinos!
Bronwyn: I think that is a great idea. We have Health Kick which is a group person training session that runs twice a week for 8 weeks during the semester so in summer we can do the classes outside!
Bianca: We have mixed netball that runs every Wednesday night for 10 weeks held on campus, it is on the website, notice boards in ND6, white board outside ND9 and the blog! I have not done marketing before and would love some news ways to catch students' attention.
Sprout: so many dance comments! looks like we should take a vote on what is most popular.
The Above named, come collect your Coffee Vouchers, ND9 Student Life Office
Amir: I am looking at Krav Maga during the day, on campus next semester. Also I know a student who owns a martial arts centre if you want contact details, swing by!
Steve S: Cycling is very popular on campus, it is hard to start a class but if you are keen to get a club going I would love to help. We just started a running club on campus!
Katie: I love the idea of friendly competitions on campus, the Sport Council run the Student Life Cup which is casual sports run during the day, we also have yoga, pilates and health kick (group personal training). If you have any particular ideas, my ears are open!
Caroline: We are onto it, loving the feedback!
Anonymous: read the Steve S comment, this is open to you too if you are keen
Anonymous: Looks like I have answered your question too!
Dandabert: Now we just have to wait for the reply from the instuctor to confirm and Zumba will be on campus!
Thanks to everyone who wrote a comment, I hope my response help but if not you can always leave more comments or email me jmontgomery1@nd.edu.au

Social Sport Finals
Monday Soccer Finals
Eight teams entered the arena, but only one remained standing at the end...
The first match pitted the Scrubs against Tristan's Team. Hari, the goal keeper from
Scrubs, burst out of goal within the first 30 seconds; after catching a shot ball he took it back all the way and scored, promising to lead the Scrubs through a tough battle. Unfortunately, his heroics were not enough to ward off the constant onalaught of Tristan's Team, who ended up taking the match 14-2.
Your Mum and Banana Toenails took the floor next. Some fancy dancing on both sides kept the score even, with every point answered on both sides through halftime. However, Caleb's magical touch couldn't overcome Josh's awesome canon, and Your Mum clinched a 4-3 victory.
The first two victors fought for the bowl finals in a tough and even match. No team could grab an advantage, and at the end of regulation, the score stood at 4-4. As thunder peeled and the skies blackened, champions stepped up to the square to take penalty kicks, while the brave defender of each side danced nervously on the balls of their feet in the goal. Each team missed their first kick and make their second. On the third round Josh put his kick in and then stepped into the goal. The ball fired high and he deflected it out of way, earning Your Mum the title of Plate Champion!
To contest for the Cup, and to be named grand champion, 4 teams battled a tough road against familiar foes. First up was season leader, ATTN: Awesome, coming of a massive upset by the Oddballs. While they would not let the game be so lopsided as last, the excellent goalkeeping of Jay kept ATTN: Awesome off the scoreboard the whole first half, while the Oddballs sank their first goal at the 7th minute, and their second near the half. ATTN: Awesome stepping up their defense, denying the Oddballs any points in the second half, but their nemesis also held firm, only allowing one goal to upset the leaders for good, and sending Oddballs to the finals 2-1.
On any given Monday, anything can happen, and though the projected leader was brought down, Stephen Ball of ATTN: Awesome still walked away with a trophy for regular season MVP.
The last semi-final brought the pain as the Cunning Stunts tried to get their first ever victory over Derek's V. Goals were hard won and dear, and some just pure luck. Each team was awarded a point for a shot that mailed the top crossbar and then bounced back into the net. At halftime, Derek's V led 3-2. Alasdair's rousing halftime speech fired up the Stunts to new frenzy, but they were no match for the deadly accuracy of the V, and in the end fell 5-4.
That brought together last semester's champion, Derek's V, and season underdog, Oddballs. The game opened fast and furious, but neither team was able to get a goal until Derek's V scored on a one tough off a line out. That opened the flood gate for the rest of the game. Tom of Oddballs answered with a hat trick: an open shot, a give and go play, and a thigh tap to roundhouse kick in midair. Derek's V got their second goal off a corner kick. Mark one touched a cross pass from Oddball's final goal of the half. and Derek's V slipped one between Jay's legs to close the half.
Instantly off the kickoff pass to open the second half, Andrew fired one in to inch Derek's V closer. Tom and Mark pulled of another perfect give and go play for their 6th point. Later, Tom scooped a lofted ball with his foot that skimmed over Chia's head and into the goal. Derek's V then came back with three in a row: Andrew smashed a shot into Jay and then put the rebound into the net; Andrew finished from a down line pass; and then the team pressed out after a hard defensive set to tie the game up. Jay came out of goal for Oddballs, and quickly put in a shot, and Tom one touched a goal off a corner kick to seal the victory of Oddballs 9, Derek's V 7.
Congratulations to Oddballs for their underdog win of Monday Night Soccer.
Tuesday Soccer Finals
Twenty players arrived Tuesday to see who was the best of the best. After organizing into teams the play commenced. Four teams battled each other in a round robin competition, with all games running close to the wire, and all victors squeaking by with only a one point margin. However, the Orange team of Tasha, Amy, Kalon, Jimmy and Adam held superior to the rest, winning out all their games and becoming the BEST OF THE BEST. MVP of the tournament went to Tasha for her amazing shooting, while Tool of the Tourney went to Liam for missing wide open shots, fouling every player on court and generally monging about.
For regular season play, the Champion trophy was awarded to Bastian Chase, with MFP going to it's member Ryan Pack. Honorable mention MVPs went to James Ball of Bastian Chase and James Thompson of James T's Blanks.
In second place for the season was Kayla's Krazy Kangaroos, representing the United States of America. They will face off against the Cunning stunts next Monday, while Bastian Chase will play the Monday Champion to see who will be the Notre Dame COMPLETE CHAMPION OF THE ULTRAVERSE!!!!!!
Championship of the Unltraverse!
In the opener, the Cunning Stunts faced of against Kayla's Krazy Kangaroos (aka Team USA). The match opened with good shots and saves on both sides. Jensen chipped the ball from the far lineout, right off Beaver's head for the opening score. Woodsy made a good shot for the second. Jensen nutmegged one of the American's in his assist to Alisdair. From USA, Jeff immediately answered. Alaisdair cherry picked the Stunt's fourth point. Jensen pulled a 180 to score the 5th, and then set up Woodsy for the final goal of the half. USA opened the second half by scoring off a corner kick, and then soon after putting in another corner. Another header slipped through the American goalie's fingers. A mid-air trap allowed team USA to fire one in, but Jensen broke out of a mob go answer. A deceptively slow shot from centre court squeaked under Beaver's arms to give USA their last point of the match. Right before full time, Woodsey earned himself a hat trick of headers.
In the ultimate battle of cosmic domination, Bastian Chase took on the Oddballs after a break from their Monday Championship win. the game started even, with no team having an advantage. Rachael and Adam led the defense, with Liam showing uncommon competence in goal. Ryan broke the stalemate 7 minutes in, and slowly over the half got a hat trick to close the half 3-0 for Bastian Chase. Tom opened the second half wit a trap and turn with Liam pressing on his back to get the Oddballs on the board. Rachael scored off a line out from Ryan for Bastian Chase's final score. A deflected Bastian Chase shot rolled all the way back down the court, which Ben was able to chase down and fire in, but time ran out with Bastian Chase on top 4-2 over Oddballs, making them COMPLETE CHAMPION OF THE UNLTRAVERSE!!!!
