Social Sports Competition Update

The indoor soccer competition at Notre Dame wrapped up on Monday the 30th of May, and was another highly competitive night of finals. Third place play off saw Cunning stunts beat Sons of God 8-4. The grand final lived up to expectations and saw Derek’s V defeat Left Right Out 8-5.Both teams battleing it out goal for goal before Derek’s V stormed home to seal the victory. Congratulations to all teams who put on a great display of sportsmanship and athletism throughout the season.

With the competition over for this semester it is a good time to start thinking about registering yourself or a team for this great competition which will be held in semester 2 starting from the 8th of August 2011.

What is Your Best Exam Study Tip?

To answer this question, click on “comment” below and write your best exam study tip and include your full name.

An example of a study tip is: I like to rewrite my notes. This makes me think about what I am writing, what it's about, and why I wrote it down. Most importantly, it refreshes my memory.

The 3 most creative answers will win 2x Red Spoon yoghurt vouchers!

The competition closes at 12:00pm Wednesday 22nd June so please get your answers in before then.

Exam Prayer
Be With me now

Be with me now as I prepare for exams.
Thank you for the many talents
and gifts that you have already given to me.

Help me to recall all that I have
studied and express it clearly.

Inspire me when answering the
questions and encourage me to do the
very best that I can.

Remind me that nothing is going to
happen to me that you and I together
can’t handle.

Holy Spirit, think through me until
your ideas are my ideas.

Amen

Volunteer for the Big Help Mob

Big Help Mob is a massive rent-a-crowd of ordinary young people who combine their powers to perform extraordinary feats of strengths and stupidity for local communities and non-profits. We aim to make volunteering as mainstream as cheeseburgers and breathing. The way we go about doing this is through organising fun, social and positive one-off events that get hundreds of hands on deck to complete a marvellous act of volunteering in a local community. We have a day filled with tangible outcomes and plenty of stupidity, as we strive to get young people previously not involved in volunteering ‘hooked’.

Previous BHMs have included cleaning up community bushland with friends of Clontarf Hill, a feat which benefited both those participating and nearby residents, followed by a Flash Mob on Mothers’ Day at the South Perth Foreshore with the Make Poverty History Coalition to promote maternal health. Our most recent BHM saw us partner with People Who Care to help assist people with disabilities, who live independently, with tasks such as gardening and basic home maintenance. This was followed by a celebration at Perth Train Station where we cheered and thanked passengers who were getting off the train for being public transport superheroes!

Our next BHM is planned for July the 3rd where our superheroes (BHM participants, people like you and the young people you work with) will be using their super human strength, getting their hands dirty and planting 10,000 trees in less than 4 hours to help a local community create a natural environment for future generations. Once this hands-on mission is accomplished we will head to Fremantle where the Sunday afternoon shoppers and coffee drinkers will be bombarded by 200 people having fun in a Giant Flash Mob Sports Carnival. There will be mini games of volleyball, egg and spoon races, skipping activities, hopscotch, four square, tunnel ball - you name it. This feat of stupidity and fun is all about promoting happy, healthy bodies and minds at a time when the winter blues can keep us bundled up indoors taste testing soups.
